Slow Start

January has been been one of change and renewal, not because of some New Years resolution or some well intentioned fad. For me it has been something that has been brewing for sometime.

With little time for personal work, nature, landscape or urban genres, etc. because of the day job, (Photographer at HMS Collingwood), paid commissions, freelance work for the Portsmouth and personal family commitments, I began to feel that I lacked direction and creative satisfaction, as well as time beginning to feel like a luxury.

There were also subtle inroads into my mental health through the pressures of social media. I know it sounds passé but I did not realise how much time it was taking from me. So I decided to delete my ‘X’ (Twitter) account, reduce my Facebook interaction and switch more to Instagram. I cannot say that the current setup is perfect me but it will do for the moment.

My second decision was to stop my freelance work with Portsmouth News. It is not the end of this relationship but a pause.

Hopefully, these small changes may start to give me what I seek.

So far, these changes do not feel as though anything has changed.

As a way of seeking out inspiration I have began watching Japanese lifestyle videos on Youtube (I assume they are both). From these I have been extracting screenshots in the hope it will inspire me.

So, apart from the day job most of my photography has been taken up with rugby, either union or league. As a result I am still trying to catch up and process the images for my website.

With a little less introspection and much more organisation and resolve I might just begin to feel the benefit of these choices.
