Time to Recharge

During a visit to family on the Isle of Wight I took the opportunity to start rebuilding my photographic practice, landscape and nature. Using some Lee filters I bought a while ago to enhance images some the images, though this gave some idea as to what the image would look like, this sometimes proved more troublesome than it was worth.

The images I produced over the weekend are nice but my actions and exploration of scenes or details seemed timid and self conscious, as though I was always trying to please someone else and not myself.

Hopefully, I will get these printed as sometimes a physical image is more reassuring than its digital twin.

A Break from Routine

Personal Work - My first visit to the sea defences near Southsea Castle. Striking and simple. The minimalist architectural landscape amongst the sea and sky, echoes the vastness of nature, shrinking people to show their importance in this space and echo the reasons as to why this construction was necessary.

I was also inspired to produce a multiple image Southsea's Seafront shelters. Hopefully, I can improve and expand this idea. The image is now the first image on my homepage.

Personal Work

It has been sometime since I have undertaken any personal work so it all seems a bit strange. Amongst them are some double exposures taken using the facility within the camera. This technique is not as easy as it seems, it takes a little more skill and imagination than placing any image on top of another. But I will persevere and start to produce some credible creative images.

United Services narrowly loose to Winchester 2's

United Services hosted Winchester 2’s at Burnaby Road and narrowly lost 18-19. In a match that saw Winchester take 6 points quickly from a succession of Penalties. US clawed back 3 for their penalty. US were initially caught on the back foot in the opening stages of the half but made their mark as the half progressed. The opening of the second half saw US go full throttle at Winchester to score the first try of the match however Winchester to scored and converted. US then took the lead with another penalty kick however Winchester again regained the lead by one point with another penalty. In a passionate and sometimes controversial match that saw US denied a win as their try scored at the edge of full-time was disallowed. Though very frustrating the US put on a legendary performance that will talked about for years to come.

Royal Navy Senior Women v Millbrook RFC

The RN women team quickly settled into the first half holding Millbrook at bay. However, Millbrook proved more agile than the RN expected and parried many of the RN’s attacks leaving the score at 22 - 7 into the second half. The Royal Navy's Women’s then did not hold back, constantly attacking and breaking through the Millbrook lines, who despite this never truly gave up. The resulting attacks resulted in a final score of 55-15.

United Services win at Petersfield RFC

United Services defeated Petersfield II’s 21-40 at their Penn’s Place ground. US took a strong lead against the Petersfield side as they struggled to find their voice, keeping a clean sheet into the halftime break. However, the second half saw Petersfield take the game to United Services and they began to score. The resulting attacks saw a series of unforced fouls and injuries on both sides resulting tempers become frayed as Petersfield constantly harried the 25 and 5 metre lines. In spite of this, United Services stayed resolute and always pushed back against the determined Petersfield II’s.

Royal Navy RL v Workington Town RLFC

The Royal Navy played Workington Town RLFC in the 2nd round of the Bet Fred Challenge Cup and lost 0-56. Played in difficult conditions, driving rain and blustery winds, the weather did not help the RN. With the first half being almost exclusively one way traffic for the Workington team though the RN did come close to the try line, the mud and a hard defence thwarted them. The second half saw the RN attacking with greater ferocity but again they didn’t breakthrough. With Workington gradually build on the their points the resolve of the RN team did not diminish in their efforts despite the weather and playing conditions.

Picture Spread

A few images from last Saturdays USRFC v Millbrook match made it to the Portsmouth News and used as picture spread and it looked good.

Hampshire Police v Staffordshire Police RFC's

Hampshire Police RFC played their Staffordshire counterparts at Winchester RFC’s ground and lost 22-32. Hampshire took control of much of the first half, despite Staffordshire taking a quick 5 points, Hampshire built up a respectable lead but were made to work hard. The opening minutes of the second half saw Staffordshire fight back but Hampshire pulled away with a succession of try’s, but Staffordshire never gave up and drew level despite a strong Hampshire defence. Staffordshire then took every opportunity and pulled off a remarkable win.

United Services lose to Millbrook

United Services hosted Millbrook RFC at Burnaby Road in their second match against the side. Alas, Millbrook beat US 20-37 in a hard fought match. Millbrook took control very early with two penalties and a succession of try’s with US slowly getting traction against Millbrook to take the score 10-20 into the second half. With more determination, US took their score to 20 points but Millbrook exploited their dominance to increase their lead. Though a disappointing loss, US can be proud of their performance against a side such as Millbrook.

A Royal Navy Mariners team played a side from HMS Queen Elizabeth and defeated them 26-12. In a spirited match that saw the action swing back forth with the Mariners side taking a 7-0 lead in the first half. However, the second half saw the QE side draw level only for the Mariners to open up scoring more freely but the QE team did gain another try.
